Code of Conduct and Participation Policies

The following applies to all SCVLJ athletes. Individual sport may have additional policies provided after registration.

Statement of Eligibility Special Olympics training and competition is open to every person with intellectual disabilities who is at least eight years of age and who registers to participate in Special Olympics as required by the Special Olympics General Rules. Read the complete statement here.
Athlete & Unified Partner Pledge
  1. I will treat my coaches and teammates with respect.
  2. I will do my very best to listen to and learn from my coaches.
  3. I will practice and encourage good sportsmanship.
  4. I will do my best to be at every practice, but if I am unable to attend, I will contact my coach promptly.
  5. I will wear my complete uniform to all competitions.
  6. I will abide by all rules and expectations outlined in the Special Olympics MN Code of Conduct.

General Participation Policies
  1. Every athlete must have a parent, guardian or staff member present during all practice & competition. The only exception is with permission from Head of Delegation Jennifer Harms or athlete’s Head Coach.

  1. Athletes, coaches and spectators must follow SCVLJ behavior policy or will be asked to leave. Failure to follow policy will result in suspension from practice and competitions.

  1. Athletes must have a valid medical on file. Athlete will not be allowed to practice due to State Rules and Insurance purposes until completed.

  1. Each sport has a $20 sports fee per athlete. If you cannot afford this fee and need assistance, please contact us or speak with your Head Coach.

  1. Attendance Policy: Athletes must attend 8 practices to be able to compete at Area and State Competitions. If you are sick or will not make practice, please email the team to let the your coach know. Attendance is important; remember your team depends on you!

  1. Athletes must compete at Area Competitions to be eligible to compete at State Competitions.

  1. Please come prepared for your sport. If your sport is outside, please dress for the weather. Always bring a water bottle to practice.

  1. If practice is cancelled, you will receive notification by email. Notice will also be posted on our Facebook and Website.

  1. Volunteer Policy: Each athlete is required to participate in 2 hours of volunteer events per year. For every 10 group hours, families will receive a $5 credit towards any Lumberjacks sports registration. Hours and credits will be tracked by the Fundraiser Coordinator. For more information on upcoming volunteer events please ask your coach, check out Facebook or our website.
Athlete & Unified Partner Code of ConductThe primary purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure safety and enjoyment while training and competing with the St. Croix Valley Lumberjacks. All Athletes and Unified Partners are expected to follow this Code of Conduct.Depending on the nature of the incident, any actions may bypassed in the disciplinary process.
Standards of BehaviorThe following Athlete behavior is unacceptable while participating in Special Olympics practices and competitions: Profanity, poor sportsmanship, unwelcome physical contact, negative or threatening messages (including texting, email, or social media posts such as Facebook) concerning a Special Olympics Athlete or Coach.Consequences
  • 1st offense: I will receive a verbal warning to stop (yellow card).
  • 2nd offense: My coach will meet with me, my parent, guardian or staff member to review my unacceptable behavior. I will be asked to leave practice immediately. Sports Program Manager and HOD will be notified.
  • 3rd offense: I will be asked to leave immediately. An Incident Report will be filed with the Special Olympics MN, the St. Croix Valley Lumberjacks, with a copy mailed to me.

Zero Tolerance BehaviorAggressive behavior in anyone's personal space, such as intentional hitting, kicking, or pushing. Threatening with any type of weapon. Any sexual activity, such as inappropriate touching and unwelcome advances.Consequences
  • I must leave immediately with my parent, guardian or staff person. I will be suspended from all Special Olympics events.
  • An Incident Report will be filed with the Special Olympics MN, the St. Croix Valley Lumberjacks, with a copy mailed to me.
  • Special Olympics MN and the LSMT will decide on the guidelines for my reinstatement.
